Reason #6 To Give a Damn About Da Bears in 2015: Continuing Along the "Cutler Coaster"

Since 2009, Bears fans have been on the roller coaster ride known as Jay Cutler.
We’ve been locked-in with our lap bars down and have been through it all.
Every steady climb, as he raises our hopes. Then, we’d reach a tipping point and fall down a steep drop along with his production.
Heck, we’ve been through a couple of corkscrews mixed in. As at times, he makes all our heads spin with his decision making.
We’ve ridden this ride to the NFC Championship, then seemingly out of nowhere… the ride broke down, with no one able to get it running like it used to.
Not much is (or has been) certain about Cutler, but one thing is: This has been one wild ride that encompasses both good and bad. However, depending on who you talk to, there’s been more of one than the other.  At 32 years old… this ride should be coming to a stop sometime soon.
So, why is Cutler a reason to give a damn in 2015?
No matter which side you lie on, either as a “Jay Supporter”, or a “Jay Hater”, he’s going to be the man under center this season and there’s not a whole lot we as fans can do about it.

Jay Supporters

cutler
Supporters, you have been waiting for Cutler to put it all together since his arrival. At times, he has been on the cusp of great quarterback play.
As a supporter of Cutler, fans should be enticed and intrigued by what Adam Gase can get out of him. There have been talks about how the new system is similar to the one Mike Martz ran.
There’s no need to divulge into all the statistical hoopla, as it is clearly evident Cutler played his best when Martz was calling the plays… Even with J’Marcus Webb protecting Cutler’s blindside and the lack of a true number one receiver.
Under Martz, Cutler didn’t put up his best numbers. Instead, he was consistent and managed the team all the way to an NFC Championship game.
His best numbers came under Marc Trestman, but those never translated into much of anything.
It’ll be interesting to see what Gase dials up this season… Who knows? We could see a season in which Cutler both puts up decent numbers, and manages the game.
Now, wouldn’t that be exciting? 🙂
If he can do that this season, he could find himself back in Chicago for another year. But, that’s a big “if”…
As a Jay Supporter, you don’t have to expect Cutler to be a top-5 quarterback. However, you must have faith that he can have a solid season within Gase’s system with a talented group of guys around him.
Let’s see what he can do without Brandon Marshall, and with his new duo of Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White. Don’t forget, Eddie Royal will play the slot, which will add a new dynamic to Jay’s game.
Finding out what type of player he will be this season, with the possibility of proving all the “Jay Supporters” right that he can lead this team, is why this group should give a damn.

Jay Haters

jaysit
Haters, how long have you been a non-supporter?
Have you disliked the guy since he came to Chicago? Or, has he broken your heart too many times that you simply had to give up on him?
Either way, I fully understand why you are ready to move on from Cutler and are wanting to start anew.
Yet, he is still here and will be the man to lead your Bears. You could complain about this throughout the season, but I propose that’s not the correct form of action.
Instead, try to focus on the positive. Focus on what Cutler does good (even if you think it’s little). If you focus on the good, then the bad might not seem as detrimental. Rather than getting angry or upset, keep your cool… Because, there aren’t any other options for 2015.
Don’t get me wrong: I am not saying that you need to become a supporter of Jay.
He has given you plenty of reasons not to, and Bears fans have given him plenty of opportunities to become “the guy.”
Plus, if the quarterback struggles this season, then the non-supporters get their wish fulfilled as the team will more than likely move on from him.
This might be Jay’s final year in Chicago. Even if you don’t support him, you should care about him… As stated in a previous post: “The Bears will only be as good as Jay Cutler wants to be.”
Besides, Bears fans… don’t we all want our team to succeed?

Final Thought

No matter which side you find yourself on, as a Bears fan you should give a damn about the quarterback as the team will only go as far as he takes them.
Another year on the “Cutler Coaster” might not be ideal for some. Yet again, the Bears sent in Adam Gase to do some maintenance. So, it’s possible the ride has one final stretch that will be thrilling for Bears fans.
This is it…
Our lap bars are still locked, there’s no exiting the Cutler Coaster in 2015. Which direction will it lead us?
We’re about to find out… 🙂
